5 Things about Books and Podcasts
1. Choiceology Podcast with Dan Heath
I have two new favorite podcasts this month, both by two of my favorite authors. Choiceology is from Dan Heath. Here’s the description:
“You’re not as rational as you think. In this new podcast, bestselling author Dan Heath performs forensic analysis on decision making. You’ll hear real stories, learn from top experts, and witness informal experiments that demonstrate the mistakes we too often make.”
2. The 1-3-20 Podcast by Daniel Pink
And this is second new podcast I love. 1 book, 3 questions, 20 minutes.
“In each episode, #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Pink selects 1 important book, asks its author 3 key questions (What’s the big idea? Why should I care? What should I do?), and wraps it all up in under 20 minutes.”
3. A Question I’m Often Asked: What’s My Process for Taking Notes?
by Gretchen Rubin
“When I read, I take notes. Many people have asked about my process, so here it is.”
4. I Have Forgotten How to Read
by Michael Harris
“Turning, one evening, from my phone to a book, I set myself the task of reading a single chapter in one sitting. Simple. But I couldn’t.”
5. 8 Books I Recommend – February 2018
Recommended reading from books I finished in February

5 Things I Love
1. Still Amazed
I was so happy for the invitation to spend a lot of time with my new granddaughter in February. She’s already 1 month and 2 days old.

2. Gramps
Jeff hasn’t gotten to stay with Riley as much as I have, but he’s loved every minute he gets with her.

3. Surprise Blooms
My plant needed repotting years ago, but wow. It surprised me with blooms again anyway.

4. Another Vow Renewal Ceremony
This is our second Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony to attend this year. This one is worthy of a blog post all its own, so maybe soon. For now, just know it was a God-thing how it came together. These are special friends of ours from Manna House.

5. But Who’s Counting?
This will only matter to me, but my meditation app let me know I’d reached a milestone this week. 700 sessions with the app, yet I know I’m still a beginner. Meditation doesn’t come easy to me. But I keep trying anyway.

You and Jeff just beam with radiance when you are with Riley! I love it! Brings back memories of when our grandchildren were that age. Your lily is beautiful…love the color. And I can’t wait to hear about the vow renewal couple!
Oh…and I had a good lol when I came to the Holy Ghost image! Pray for me…I’m headed to Walmart shortly. 🙂
Thanks, Dianna. We are loving every second that we get to spend with Riley! I know how fast little ones grow so I want to enjoy all the time with her while I can at every stage. Prayed for you this morning when I saw your comment. 🙂 I need to go to Walmart so pray for me too. lol
I always love your monthly updates! I’m glad you’ve been enjoying time with your beautiful granddaughter, and I love the picture of the flower too!
Thanks, Lesley. I’ve been having to slap these monthly updates together much quicker these past two times so I can get back down to see my grandbaby. 🙂
The photo of you with your granddaughter is absolutely beautiful and made me pause and smile. Thanks for sharing this little slice of life (along with all the other fun stuff) with me!
Thanks, Sarah. It’s definitely been a fun month and 2 days with our newest member of the family! 🙂
Oh sweet, sweet Riley …
;-}
Yes, indeed. 🙂 So much sweetness packed into a tiny little body. Only God can do that….
I don’t know where to start Lisa. Riley is beautiful and so are her grandparents.
I need the Holy Ghost to go to Wal-Mart. I’m laughing. I do love Wal-Mart and oh how I need that Holy Ghost more than ever on some of those trips. I like going early in the morning when no one is there.
Love the iris and can’t wait for Spring here.
Never heard of Yondr. Thanks for sharing. I sub and it’s not in our schools here yet. I bet we’ll all know what it is in the coming years.
I had not heard of Yondr either, but yes, we’ll probably see it sooner than we imagine. I might even need it for myself sometimes. lol. I know it is hard to put that phone down in certain situations but we all need to.
So your Walmart must be like mine. 🙂 Thanks for dropping in, Debbie. I always enjoy when you visit.
I loved all you shared within this blog post, Lisa.
But most of all I loved the photos of you and Jeff with your sweet Riley bundle.
What joy to have her enter your world and forever change it with all she brings.
Happy for you!
Lynn
Yes, we have already experienced a different level of joy with little Riley entering our world. Thank you, Lynn, for sharing in our happiness. Love you, friend.
What a beautiful baby! Congratulations
Thanks, Christina. We can’t get enough of her tiny snuggles and sounds.
I just read Daniel Pink’s When and really enjoyed it. I had no idea he had a podcast. Thanks for the recommendation!
Oh, I’m jealous, Kendra! I want to get my hands on a copy of When soon. I really enjoy Daniel Pink’s writings and now his podcast. He really likes to get to the point, which I appreciate so much.
Start with Why has been on my to-read list for a long time! I enjoyed your post!
Hope you can get to Start with Why soon. I had it on my wait list from my library for the Kindle, and it finally became available last month. It was a pretty quick read and easy to understand. Just ask why a lot. 🙂
I always enjoy your second-a-day videos, and I loved that so much of it involved your granddaughter this month. I know what you mean about Wal-Mart. 🙂 The 1-3-20 podcast sounds interesting – you might get me listening to a podcast yet. 🙂
I have to use great restraint not to put more pictures of Riley everywhere. ha. She definitely filled my video this month, thankfully. I know I won’t always get to see her as frequently as I have been (I’ve been burning up I-65 the past month).
If you ever do get start listening to podcasts, I hope you won’t get as addicted as I am. ha. But usually I just listen when I’m doing something else so I guess it’s okay. 🙂
Isn’t it hard to believe it’s March already? I’m excited, because spring officially starts this month. 🙂 All the photos of Riley are my favorites this month. Happiness glows from Grandma and Grandpa’s eyes. 🙂 Don’t you just love to cuddle her?! Such a precious age they far too soon grow out of. But each age has its preciousness though. 🙂 Love and hugs to you!
It’s definitely hard to believe it’s March of 2018. I’m excited about spring too! Just when I think we’re in it, it turns cold again (I should know better by now, ha). I’ve been getting some sweet cuddles the past few days from little Riley…staying with them again a few days to help out. She’s coming to my house this weekend so I’m super excited. Hope you’re having a great week, Trudy!
What an incredibly special time for you guys, being grandparents really suits you both! Great recap, I have filed away lots of links in my mind for later ?
Thanks, Emma. Being a grandparent is as much fun as everyone told me about. 🙂 I wasn’t sure it could live up to the hype, but it is.
I can’t wait to check out a couple of these! Thanks so much for sharing!
You’re welcome, Donna. Doing these monthly recaps are some of my favorite to write and some of my favorites to read from others.
I love your 1 second videos, and congratulations on that precious new Grandbaby! Enjoy the time you get to spend with her–it seems that the time goes even faster with the grandchidren than it did when their parents were young! Your lily is beautiful! I was so surprised to find a bud stalk hiding in my amaryllis that I thought was not going to bloom this year! Happy Spring to you!
Thanks, Bettie. I am definitely trying to soak in these baby snuggles I’m getting because I know they’ll go fast. It’s been great fun so far!
Glad your amaryllis bloomed too. It’s nice to have those kind of surprises. 🙂
Hi Lisa,
What a great collection of bests and favorites! Your grandbaby is precious. So happy for you!
Blessings and smiles,
Lori
It is nice to see how other people track with God. #journeysingrace
Lisa, thanks so much for sharing your February with us at the #LMMLinkup! I don’t think I’ve heard of any of those books but they look good! What a gift grandchildren are! I enjoyed the photos! Blessings to you! Have a great weekend!
wow this is a great roundup. I like them whenever you do them but this one holds so much. That photo of you and your grandbaby warmed my heart and made me smile. I will check out those podcasts. Which app are you using for your meditation? Never heard of Yondr either. and ouch, that article about I have forgotten how to read – made me squirm – it held a lot of truth to it. I want to go back and reread it. Thanks for all the goodies.
I use “Insight Timer” as my meditation app. 95% of the time I just use my preset 20 minute setting with beginning and ending gong sounds. But now and again I’ll use one of their guided meditations (they have so many!) and love those too. All free, of course. 🙂
