What’s up in September 2013
I am pondering these words . . .“Every human interaction offers you the chance to make things better or to make things worse.”
– Barbara Brown Taylor
I am thinking . . . if love is why I’m still here, how many ways can I live out that purpose today that honors the Father?
I am thankful . . . for 21 years of marriage (as of yesterday, September 4) with this saint of a man
I am looking forward to . . . a beach trip with him soon to celebrate
I am reading . . . Transforming Grace by Jerry Bridges because I can never get enough grace or Jerry Bridges’ books (also reading these)
One of my favorite things . . . is free and discounted Kindle eBooks, often found here
I am trying . . . a different Spanish/English translator for communicating with my friends in El Salvador. Google Translate is fine but I like options.
I am listening to . . . a few new (to me) subscriptions from NPR podcasts (Most Emailed Stories, StoryCorps, Story of the Day, …)
I am studying . . . more about wisdom literature through this series at Do Not Depart
I am discovering . . . God working through my surrender via The Welcoming Prayer by Thomas Keating after an eCourse with Spirituality & Practice last month
I am realizing . . . my newest round with pain is throwing me even more on God’s grace and intentional surrendering to him; I want to get better at both
I am praying . . . about what God will show others and me as we start memorizing Ephesians 1 in two weeks—registration is still open here
I am appreciating . . . pre-printed sticky notes of Ephesians 1 from Scripture Stickies made special for our memory challenge
I am excited about . . . seeing my kids excited doing things they enjoy, like Jenna taking pictures this year for her school’s newspaper
A picture to share . . . her favorite assignment so far—photographing the on-campus Pentatonix concert (a capella winners of the 2011 The Sing-Off—we loved them!)

What’s something happening in your day today?
The Simple Woman’s Daybook
…where every day is a blank page
past Daybooks
- A new Bible memory challenge
- Stupid or smart?
Happy Anniversary! I hope the two of you have a marvelous time on your beach trip to celebrate! I love reading your Daybook Entries because they show so much thought and I always love the things you share! Gave me some new ideas about where to find some great e-books…and another avenue for study through Do Not Depart!
Thanks, Dianna. I am definitely looking forward to the beach! Shouldn’t be miserably hot at this time of year, but still plenty warm.
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks, Nancy! We didn’t do much on the actual day, but that’s kinda the way we roll. ha.
Happy Anniversary!!! We celebrated 37 years yesterday and are at the beach for a couple of days. We got married at age 19…just babies! It wasn’t that uncommon back in the day.
Congratulations! 37 years is fantastic! You’re right that 19 wasn’t so young to marry back in the day. Actually there were probably many advantages to doing so. Enjoy the beach! Hope we’ll be there soon.
The wisdom literature study looks very interesting. I just finished reading through Psalms, Prov and Song of Solomon. I love those books!
Sept is busy for us with the start of homeschool (4 kids in school now!) and getting ready to head back to the US in just over a month! Lots to do to get ready!
Those Wisdom books can be dense though. Whew. I’ve been reading through different books on the books this week and it can be heavy. But that’s fine. It’s all good!
Homeschooling 4 kids is not an easy job–you need a lot of wisdom for that. ha. Praying your preparations to come back to the US will go smoothly.
We loved Pentatonix, too, and were so sorry The Singoff wasn’t renewed. How cool to get to meet them and be in a picture with them!
I am sorry about your pain! Any options or treatments available?
I heard earlier this year that The Singoff is scheduled to come back on in a few months. Hope it’s true because we loved the show!
The doctor prescribed a nightly medicine for my pain. It might be helping a wee bit; I’ll give it a few more weeks to see if it’ll kick in better or not. The best thing about it so far is it’s helping my insomnia. 🙂
Well, I’m a little behind, but Happy Anniversary! I’m so glad we have so many great examples of marriage in our family. Love yall! I obviously haven’t looked at your blog in a while…I didn’t even realize you had a new site! haha
We just celebrated our anniversary this week on the beach so you’re not very far behind. I’m thankful for the great examples of marriage in our family too. I know you’ll have one too at the right time. 🙂
