Sign Up Now to Touch the Light—1 John 1 {Create Your Own 6-Week Challenge}
UPDATE: The Fall 2021 challenge has now ended. But I still encourage to memorize this chapter using any of the free resources provided.
* * *
This fall let’s take an online walk together with Jesus, the Living Word, through 1 John 1.
“The Word of life existed from the beginning. We have heard it. We have seen it. We observed and touched it.”
1 John 1:1 (GW Translation)
For 6 weeks I’ll be posting on the blog and sending out resources via email to those who sign up for ways we can “touch the Light” of Jesus.
You choose your preferred approach to the text. You’ll receive resources to personalize your challenge. Mix and match any of the following:
- Read the ten verses in a different translation each week
- Memorize all ten verses over six weeks (join our private scripture memory Facebook group, Hide His Word)
- Meditate on the truths verse by verse
- Study the chapter and related verses in context
Whatever your goal, we’ll be here for each other in community, providing encouragement, resources, and support in our encounters with Jesus.
We’ll officially begin after Labor Day, but let’s begin preparing our hearts now.

I love being able to learn from a global community & make friends with people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.
Yay! I’m glad you’ll be joining us, Barb. I know you’re a valuable group member. I’ve appreciated your participation in our One Word 2021 group so much!
I’ve signed up, Lisa!
Blessings!
This makes me happy, Martha! So glad you signed up.
So excited to begin, and love the suggestion to read a different version each week.
Our group is always richer when you participate in it, Michele. I’ve been reading through several of the versions lately for 1 John 1 and it really enhances my understanding to see the thought phrased slightly different each time.
What a great idea! No better way to spend our time than memorizing and meditating on scripture!
It’s been a lifesaver to me in many ways to have these truths about Jesus embedded in my mind. But especially at night when my mind starts to wander into anxious thoughts, I love being able to pull up a series of verses to do a hard reset back into reality instead of focusing on my craziness. 🙂
Have signed up. Always love online group studies, hearing other people’s perspectives on the Scriptures.
Yay! I’m always glad when you join in, David. Your unique perspective has been helpful to me for quite some time now.
I love this, Lisa. Light is my One Word for 2021. I’m clicking on the link now to sign up.
How apropos that Light is your word and here we are doing this! So glad you’ll be joining in, Lisa. You’ll have extra insights already on Light!
1 John is a favorite …
Yes, it’s a favorite of mine, too. Of all the apostles, I think I’d like to sit down for counseling the most with John. 🙂 His gospel is my favorite of the four.
I’ve signed up. I love all four approaches and will probably mix and match, but my hope is to memorize the chapter.
That’s awesome, Joanne! It sounds like we’ll be on the same track. I definitely want to memorize the chapter too, and it helps me to internalize it more when I also mix in the other approaches.
I’m in. All signed up.
This makes me happy to know you’ll be with us on this journey too, Paula! Blessings to you, friend.
Lisa, this sounds like a wonderful idea. I enjoy listening to the Bible in different versions. It expands my understanding.
So true, Debbie. When I read in a different translation, it usually jars my brain just enough to let go of the “way I’ve always heard it”.
I’ve just signed up and I’m looking forward to hearing the other versions of 1 John 1. I’ve enjoyed everyone’s comments and it sounds like a lot of friendship will be included in this group. Thanks for doing this!
So glad you signed up and joined the Facebook group, Carol! Feel free to share your insights all along the way.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been by, Lisa, as I haven’t been blogging much. (Well, actually, I was, but I was writing a private blog for awhile.) And lo and behold, I come back to community and discover this fantastic study to be part of. I LOVE being part of online studies. I am going to read in 3 different translations (NLT, ESV, NIV84), plus I will memorize the chapter. I recently memorized the entire book of James, so I’m thinking this first chapter of John will set me on the path to memorizing that apostle’s words as well.
Patti! It’s good to hear from you again. I’m so glad you found our group; you’ll be a wonderful asset. I’m encouraged by your ability to memorize so much. I learned the first chapter of James a few years back, and I still review it because I want to hold on to it. God’s love and grace that I find in the verses I memorize have pulled me out of many middle-of-the-night worry sessions. 🙂
