Take One Step {Mantra 11}
—Grace & Truth Linkup
Don’t do the whole thing today.
Move the ball forward a little.
Just take a step in the right direction.
Sometimes this is what I have to tell myself to get moving: Take a step. Only a step.
- Put on my shoes. (Maybe the workout will follow.)
- Load the dishwasher. (Maybe I’ll end up cleaning the kitchen.)
- Find the phone number. (Maybe I’ll actually make the call.)
Or maybe not. Maybe I won’t end up doing the next things.
But at least I will have done the one thing.
And sometimes just doing the one thing is enough.
There’s always tomorrow.

Take One Step works for me every time!
Sometimes, one step is all it takes to get moving.
Blessings, Lisa!
I love this mantra. I’ve found momentum to be like the potato chips. You can’t eat/do just one.
Great advice. I use this often when I’m quilting, just quilt one row and eventually it’s all quilted.
Baby steps are still steps forward.
I love this, Lisa. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I allow myself to become paralyzed. Remebering to take just one step, gives me the encouragement and hope I need to keep going!
Take one step keeps us from being paralyzed and made impotent in a relationship or task we are trying to move forward in our lives. It reminds me of Elisabeth Elliot’s quote, “Do the next thing.”
Doing one step starts us in the right direction. And sometimes it is all I need. Especially if it is the hardest step.
I’m loving all your mantras and by-words, Lisa! I’m resonating with so much of what you’ve said. What a great series!
I hope you have a sweet weekend. Please know God keeps you on my heart and I pray often for you and yours.
He is able.
Yes! Taking that one step often sets things into motion and the job gets done. Sometimes taking that step is mighty hard; but I’m always glad I did it!
I could fill pages with all the things that require baby steps for me ?. Exercising after 8 am is definitely one of them! Phone calls, taxes, grading papers, and filing insurance claims come in a close second. Thank you for this reminder that baby steps will get me started. Did you ever see “What About Bob?” If you haven’t, you must?.
Sometimes, one step is all it takes Lisa!
Blessings,
Jennifer
