Share Four Somethings—October 2021

Near the end of each month I share something I love, something I read, something I treasure, and something ahead with others at Heather’s.

Something Loved

  • MY PUNKINS

I loved spending time this month with my three favorite punkins in the pumpkin patch.

Something Read

  • KINDLE SAMPLES

I have progress to report! I’ve been working on reducing the number of book samples I’ve collected on my Kindle.

[What is a Kindle sample? When you want to see if you’ll like a book before you buy it, tap the “Send a free sample” button on the book’s page on Amazon. Amazon will send a chapter or two to your Kindle or to your phone.]

I started the year with 326 book samples.

I’m now down to only 4 samples!

After reading the samples, I either deleted them, added them to my library list, or bought the full book.

Here’s how I did it: one small habit.

One of my favorite reading challenges all year is almost here…#NonficNov.

We’ll chat about our favorite nonfiction books through daily Instagram challenges and Monday blog posts.

Something Ahead

  • ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT A GROUP PHOTO

I’m hoping all three of my grandkids will be here together this weekend. It hasn’t happened since last May. If everyone stays healthy, I’d love to get a photo of all three together!

I had not heard of non-fiction November until your introduction! Sounds very interesting. And congratulations on completing cleaning up your Kindle of its book samples!

Lisa, thanks so much for sharing my post – and for being the inspiration of my post!

As always, I love your 4 Somethings format. I’ve not heard of non-fiction November, either. Also, I have got to say the photos of your grands are all so cute, but the one holding her dolly is precious! You should frame that one!

Happy to share your post, Jerralea! It inspired me to think about the “vehicles” of my themes in new ways.

I love the dolly picture too! I actually printed it out last week so I could have a hard copy.

I love seeing how your precious punkins have grown, Lisa, both in the video and photos. 🙂 Have fun with all your 3 grandkids together this weekend! Love and blessings to you!

    Dear Lisa,

Sweet pics of the kids. I must confess, my email client has image download switched off & when I saw “punkins” I thought “Puns!” ? Congrats on getting the Kindle sample pile down! That is very impressive and must feel very liberating (I don’t really do Kindle but I have a gazillion Amazon wish lists). I seem to be heading into non-fiction territory, after a storybook binge, just in time for Novoember, so I’ll check out those links.

    Finally, why two (themes)?

Why two themes? Good question. I don’t think there’s anything special about “two” but it’s just what Philip Yancey noticed about his writings. I imagine we all have an infinite number of themes of varying sizes if we counted them all up.

I haven’t heard of nonfiction November. I read nonfiction throughout the year. November is now blocked off as NaNoWriMo for me which I’m looking forward to again (my third year!).

I came across the November Nonfiction challenge this week for the first time. I think it sounds really intriguing, but not sure if I can fit it in. Thanks for mentioning it, I am going to think on it further. Not sure if this is something you would be interested in, but I shared two Christmas challenges I am doing over the next 3 months in my Share Four Somethings post (encounterswiththedavisfamily). There is Christmas nonfiction too 🙂

This is such a lovely idea for a post! Your pictures of your family are so sweet. And thank you for including Nonfiction November as a thing you love! It’s always such a pleasure to get to chat about nonfiction with everyone.

326 down to 4! Amazing. You sound like me. Wanting to read so many books. If I could read and absorb a book while I sleep, there would be a different one under my pillow every night : ) Also didn’t know about Nonfiction November. That’s one of my favorite genres.

I hope that the group photo goes well! Nonfiction November sounds like a lot of fun. I was just thinking this morning that it’s been a long time since I read any memoirs or nonfiction materials myself.
