Here are my answers for my One Word 2023 HUMAN.
- As you might expect, Human remained very relevant in my everyday life. It’s what we all are.
- I saw Human everywhere, all the time. I didn’t intentionally check, but I’d guess it popped up in some conversation, media, or thought every single day.
- Yes, Human met my expectations. My original plan included a monthly focus on either the human body (physical), the human mind (mental), or the human heart (emotional). It was easy to follow this pattern.
- Human was full of surprises this year. Because it was my One Word, it kept me aware and open to meeting and learning from other real-life humans in unexpected ways and places.
- It may be too soon to tell, but I believe Human helped me grow in curiosity, in patience with others and myself, and in awareness of what it means to be human.
- Yes, I am very glad I chose Human as my word. It was so encompassing and alive.
- Yes, I would recommend this word to another person, but I would advise they aim for a particular direction with it (while also remaining open) since it is such a huge theme.
- 5 Stars for Human. And humans!

Leadership led me down a different path than I envisioned, Lisa. I expected to grow in skills and systems but found the foundation to be humility. I grew in my understanding of leadership by embracing the Incarnate Christ in His Holiness.
True leadership comes from humility, loving the Lord which includes the fear of God, and loving others. Otherwise, the leadership/service stems from human selfishness. I would recommend leadership to others, especially if approached from the heart and not intellectually. 5 stars for leadership
Lovely. I think of Christ as supreme example of Servant-Leader.
I would rate my 2024 word as 1. I don’t even remember what it was. Now that I’ve read your article on how to choose a word of the year, I realize I could have made changes. Having a word of the week or word of the month might have helped me stick with the process and learn more. I’ve already chosen my word of the year for 2024. But now I know I have options if it doesn’t work for me! Thanks ????
I would rate my 2024 word as 1. I don’t even remember what it was. Now that I’ve read your article on how to choose a word of the year, I realize I could have made changes. Choosing a different word, a word of the week, or word of the month might have helped me stick with the process and learn more. I’ve already chosen my word of the year for 2024. But now I know I have options if it doesn’t work for me. Who knew the rules were flexible?! Thanks ????
Oh ratings. Admittedly, I’m the worst at rating, per se, via #s. That said, I’m glad I chose FINISH for the 2nd year in a row. Books advise you never to repeat your word. Lisa, you encouraged me to know that that would be ok. I had originally thought of the word w/ re: to finishing longstanding projects. Were I to use that as a measurement, it’s not that the word would rate low, but that I would in terms of achievement. Constant vertigo, always slowing me down and making the simplest of tasks extremely difficult for project completion (like bending, looking down, etc), surely does not help. But I’m a world class procrastinator, and still am. Having my aim finally to FINISH some more short-range unfinished tasks that have bugged me, did help me to complete them. Also little things, like thinking: Don’t put the coat on the chair, but FINISH putting it awasy–stuff like that! 🙂 The other realization which is useful (and your word comes into play here, Lisa) is to realize I’m a human in progress. As far as my sanctification goes, I will never be finished till heaven, and I’m more accepting of that fact, rather than finding that defeating or stressful. In the end, it’s God who has to (and promises to) “finish” me, like a fine finish, or polish. This is a process. Another thing: I finished a friendship, if you will, that I realized was not a true friendship in the first place (more of an acquaintance), and exposure to the person became toxic, b/c she would not accept my boundaries. I was not ugly or mean-spirited whatever in my requests, but simply removed myself from exposure, w/ my family’s insistence. Were I to see this person, I’d be kind. I’m certain of that, but finally followed my family’s advice (and my pastor agreed); yet even removing myself was very difficult for me, personally. I never want to hurt or offend. Moving on… I thought a lot about Christ’s finished work on the Cross for me. Admittedly, this is not something I expected to find, and this was sobering. I’m rambling here a bit, but I’m just about finished w/ Christian radio’s promotion of particular political views. Actually, I am. Their hypocrisy is legion, but I listen in part out of habit (and get angry), but also to know why my friends think as they do on these topics. But I’m thinking I really need to stop, and just go to websites and podcasts of pastors whose theology I trust, and who are never political. FINISH also helped lead me to my word for 2024, CHOOSE, b/c I realize unless I CHOOSE to finish (the big projects) I won’t! I’m curious (ha! your word, Miss Lisa) to know more about free will (choice), and how this too factors into sanctification. God expects our involvement in the process. We are to cooperate in our spiritual growth.

Hi, Lisa – Thank you for this rating scale. I used a pocket WOTY this year (which I reveal in my post next week). It absolutely delivered in all categories. It made a very positive impact for me.
I’m not a reliable rater of many things because I’m so forgetful but I’m convinced that BE was the perfect word for me and it surprised me by being more active and requiring more of me than I expected.
I think I would give my word/words – abide and savor – a 5. Though I wasn’t conscious of them all the time, when I look back I see that I did abide in Christ and savor His words. They were perfect reminders of where my identity lies and where I get strength. They have led me to my word for next year because they showed me that I needed more STILLNESS. Blessings to you, Lisa! Lisa, I didn’t do a lot of writing about my word (“remember”) in 2023, but it was a guiding force behind a lot of thinking and doing, if that makes any sense. Probably the biggest thing was starting Remembering Our Parents on Instagram this year. It might seem coincidental that my word was “remember” during the same year I did this, but I feel there’s more to it than that. 🙂 I’m glad that “human” was so rewarding for you.
I would give the word TRUST a 7! Initially, I was scared to embrace the word, wondering what the Lord had in store for me. However, last year’s word has led me to my word for 2024. A word that already has surprised me on many levels. I cannot wait to write about it!
