We’ve made it almost two months with our One Words. If your energy is slipping to stay engaged with your word, plan new ways to connect with it over the next few weeks.

1. FIND SOMETHING TO HEAR

Listen for a song (or create your own?) with your One Word in the title or lyrics. Add it to a playlist or print out the lyrics. Or learn to play it on an instrument or sing it to yourself.

I found several songs with CURIOSITY in the title when I googled them. But I only found one I liked: “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson from the 2006 animated film Curious George. It is also on the soundtrack album Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George.

“And as my mind begins to spread its wings
There’s no stopping CURIOSITY
I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I’ll find the things they say just can’t be found
I’ll share this love I find with everyone”

Upside Down by Jack Johnson

2. FIND SOMETHING TO SAY

Find a poem, a quote, a scripture, a book excerpt, etc., about your word. Read it aloud to yourself. Perhaps use your phone to record yourself reading it and listen to it once a day for a week.

I’ve been memorizing a poem I love. It doesn’t have the actual word CURIOSITY in it, but it is about curiosity at its core.

“The Guest House”
by Rumi

“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”

3. FIND SOMETHING TO SEE

Gather a couple of new visuals of your word. Maybe challenge yourself for a month to take a photo a day of something that reminds you of your word. Place these where you’ll see them often.

Lately I’ve been taking a photo every day of something that sparks CURIOSITY for me. Here are a few.

The more you use your senses to interact with your word, the more it will become part of who you are.

Oh my gosh, Curious George is my favorite children’s character. We watch him on PBS all the time at our house with our youngest granddaughter. We LOVE this song as we also have the DVD of the movie in which it appeared! So I was so excited to see you share it here! Lisa, I so appreciate all you do to keep us connected to our One Word and to each other!

How fun, Joanne! I didn’t know you were a Curious George fan too. Jeff gave me another Curious George book for Christmas because of my One Word. 🙂 I’ve never seen the movie. Maybe my grandson and I can watch it together when he gets a little older.

I love your “curiosity” photos, Lisa. I’m still enjoying my word (now) but I’m also finding ways that your word relates to my current season of life. Hm … I just might have to jot some of those thoughts down for a future post. 🙂

Such a sweet memory, Horace! I love Curious George too. But my youngest daughter never liked Curious George because he was always getting in trouble and it made her anxious. ha.

I’ve noticed that too, Barb! Sometimes our words really get embedded in us and linger for a long time. I think that happened when I chose “Now” and also now with “Human.” 🙂

Sometimes the shortest posts pack the biggest punch, Dianna. The quote you shared on your blog can turn a life around! I’ll look forward to what you’ll also share on Tuesday about kindness and tragedy.

Great advice with ways to look for your word! I haven’t done a One Word for a few years, but I recently came across the last one I did–my friend made a keychain charm for me. It was PRIORITIZE. I’ve definitely done that more since then! I would enjoy following your advice here with PRIORITIZE. Great idea. Visiting from Happy Hearts & Homes linkup.
