Own weakness to find strength

– Excerpt from Paul David Tripp, Lost in the Middle

Grace calls us to own weakness and in owning weakness finally to be ready to find true strength.

If you think you are strong and able you will never reach for help. Perhaps this is what much of the struggle of midlife is about. God, in his grace, is ripping back the curtain of our personal delusion and showing us who we really are.

He wants us to own up to our weaknesses of body, heart, and behavior, not so we will be paralyzed by our inability, but so that we will reach out to where real strength can be found.”

Every day in October I’m sharing a short quote on grace from a favorite book.

YES! This speaks to me this morning, Lisa. Thank you.

    Weak? No.

“I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.”

I can’t live any other way. This morning, I have to be stronger than any pain I have ever experienced – and that “experienced” includes being shot, being badly burned, and being impaled. There isn’t room for weakness – if I admit to it, I’m toast.

I will hold this position until God can get here and suppress the opposition, and pull me out.

Till then – stand strong, never give up never give in,. Surrender is not in my vocabulary. Honor is.

Some might say that a single candle disperses the darkness.

For me, it’s “illuminate, and fire for effect”.

Might make me a pretty inept Christian, but I hope God understands.

Acknowledging out weaknesses can lead us to eat some “humble pie” but it’s worth it. Having God peel me back layer by layer shows me how much I need Him and how much He loves me. May I never live in a self perpetuated lie.
