Very interesting, especially since I just did a post recommending most of the books you mentioned at the end! I'll be checking in to read more of the author's thoughts! Thanks for this heads up, Lisa ...

This sounds like a very interesting book, Lisa! I can’t remember when I last read a Christian book about sex, honestly. I didn’t think of what I’ve read in the past as harmful, necessarily, just not very realistic or understanding of all the things that can affect a couple’s sex life. This book, though, sounds much more useful and relatable. Thanks for the review!

Lisa, I read an ebook version of this book one Sunday afternoon. There were parts that made me mad. The bad advice and info taught. It made me so glad I didn't hear these messages before I was married. And what low and selfish standards some of these messages set for men. Some of her stories from women were so sad. I was encouraged by her message and hope the truth gets out there and becomes the norm. God made sex to be enjoyable for both partners.

I've caught that, too--so many books for women about sex and marriage make it seem like everything hinges on the wife for the husband's happiness and best self. And I have wondered if books for men did the same re their need to do and be everything for the wives. Somehow I don't think so. :-) But both are wrong. A husband's sexual faithfulness usually has more to do with his relationship with God, not how often his wife has sex with him. And telling women sex is their duty is a sure desire-killer. How often God is presented as lovingly drawing people to Himself. How has the church missed that loving like God loves will look the same way?

I've read a couple of Sheila's books on this topic and always appreciate her frankness.

This sounds like a great read, Lisa! I whole heartedly agree that there needs to be mutuality in the bedroom and that sex should never be all about one partner. It's interesting that they've read other books and shared their thoughts. Thanks for reviewing this book, Lisa!

Church views on intimacy have certainly changed (denominationally) since I was a child. Sometimes those changes have been healthy. Thanks for tackling this topic. A healthy marriage certainly needs to be holistically caring of each other.
