Oh, Lisa. I needed to read this today. The long run I did with my hubby was a disaster from mile one. I was crabby and snapped at Bill when he did nothing to deserve it. I found myself in the final quarter-mile sobbing and almost unable to finish. What did that poor man do? He gave me a hug and encouraged me to keep going for another 2 minutes. I needed that verse from Lamentations.

I cry over things like that, too, Lisa–especially when they’re heaped together at all at once. I’m glad God’s method of dealing with them is the same, whether they’re large or small. I love that prayer in Proverbs and have expressed the same things to the Lord. And I agree, good things have their own temptations.

This reminds me of a story I heard once. I don’t like stories that put words in God’s mouth, but keeping in mind this scenario wouldn’t really happen, the story goes that a man took his cross to the Lord and told Him it was just too much to bear. So God showed him to a room full of crosses and told him to take his pick. After some deliberation, the man chose one. God said, “That’s the one you came in here with.” As much as I chafe at things God allows in my life, when I look around at others and what they deal with, I’m reminded, “Yes, Lord, You fit my burdens to my personality.”

When our internet was out for 63 hours (yes, my husband did that calculation) after our recent lightning strike in the backyard, I was fit to be tied, and Danny was even worse. Yet, we made it through, more grateful than ever for the gift of technology. God always knows how to fit us out with good things in measure.

It helps so much to keep our problems in God’s perspective, Lisa–knowing He cares, He provides and it is temporary. These are all ways I’ve reframed my suffering and God is always there to comfort me in those thoughts and situations. Thanks for this reminder! Are you traveling on your vacation right now?
