We need more face-to-face conversations, and those conversations sometimes start easier when people have read books like yours and listened to those conversations. I appreciate what you shared and the spirit with which you shared it. It's a valuable work for the body of Christ to consider.

Sounds like a good book about the Christian church in the contemporary USA.

I don’t want to start a flame war but I have read all four gospels several times each carefully, and I don’t recall reading anything against homosexuality. Have I missed a bit?

Paul, yes, but Paul was touchy even about hair length.

I think we can definitely all agree that sin is a problem for each of us; makes grace for each of us that much more meaningful. So, so grateful.

Your gorilla comment made me laugh–my favorite animal to watch at the zoo is always the gorilla. Not sure what that’s saying about me. 🙂

I think grace is indeed to all. Not sure what the books actually say about the act itself. All of us sin, and that too is one, at least the way I interpret scripture. That said, I also agree that all of us sin and if that’s what the dialogue is about it makes sense.

I suppose if we all agree that we all have some type of monkey on our backs that we live with, that’s just a gorilla.

I highly recommend both this book and Torn. Probably Torn first–it’s shorter and addresses the issues more head-on. But Chu’s book is very valuable in its expansiveness; lots of different viewpoints. Neither book is pushy though or explicit.

I know your friend must feel very blessed by you, Amy. There are so many things I react differently to now than I would have 18 years ago too (or even a year ago), thank God. He’s such a patient Father with us.

I’ve been wanting to read Torn & now putting this one on my list as well. One of my best friends from high school who was my maid of honor is gay. Thankfully, God has shown me a lot over the years & when she came out I chose to still love her. I can’t say I would have chosen the same if she had 18 years ago.
